After a long 30 days of fasting, Ramadan is coming to an end. It has not been the easiest month for us, but one that has really opened my eyes to just how charitable and united we become, not just for Ramadan, but in our every day lives too. One case in example was the unfortunate incident of the Grenfell Tower, where we saw Islamic charities, mosques, and individuals come together and work around the clock to show their support. My prayers and condolences go out to all of those affected, and a quote I’ve often used ,”out of chaos comes order”, certainly comes to mind right now. I hope going forward things will be better for everyone, starting with Eid.

I’ve  written a special Eid 2017 guide to help all of you make the most of this blessed and joyous day. Time to put on your stretchy pants and get reading on the delicious options below for Eid in London 2017 !

RESTAURANTS

Meat and Shake will be running a special two or three course menu for £15.95 and £19.95 respectively, for an entire week starting from Friday 23rd June until Sunday 2nd of July. Along with their classic burgers, they’ll also be introducing two new burgers, plus Oreo doughnuts and Key Lime Pie too!

Hankies Cafe, a North Indian cafe in the heart of Soho, haven’t been around for long but their food reminds you of home, especially their fantastic dahi batata puri. They will be serving an £18 Eid menu with the likes of paya nihari (omg), which will be served on Friday 30th June, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of July.

Bun Kebab, a Pakistani street food concept that serves “Grandma-approved” dishes, has recently opened up at Empress Market and will be holding an Eid Tea Party on 1st July. It is ideal for giving Mum a break after a long 30 days of cooking delicious goodies, and you can expect jelebis, unlimited chai, and much more, all for £12.

If you want to make that visit up North to see relatives more worthwhile, then book a table at the UK’s best halal fine dining restaurant, Cona, on your way there! Their limited-edition Eid menu will comprise of Wagyu Tomahawk, the finest charcuterie, and poulet de bresse chicken, and that’s just a small snippet of it! Cona will be serving this Eid special on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th of June only so make sure you book as soon as possible!

If you’re looking to have a taste of everything and don’t fancy a sit down meal, head to Trafalgar Square for their annual Eid festival  (this year is their tenth year!) where they will have live singers, shopping, and most importantly, a global food market with the likes of Malaysian, Indian, and Pakistani food stalls. Entrance will be free for all and will take place on Sunday 2nd July. For more information, please click here.

An alternative day out for the family is Dishoom‘s Eid Milan, that is being held in Kings Cross on Satuday 1st of July, and will be full of family activities, live musics, and an art exhibition. Foodwise, you won’t be disappointed as you’ll have a choice from several popular street food stalls such as Motherclucker, Saltwood Fish Bar, Curry On, Grill My Cheese (best grilled cheese in London!), plus a taste of Dishoom’s biryani. Tickets are £7 a pop for adults and £4 for kids, with £1 from every sale going to the Seeds of Peace charity, and they can be bought here.  If you rather eat in the restaurant, they’ll be serving a special and heavenly Eid haleem from 25th June until the 1st of July.

BAKERIES

Want to please your relatives and reap the most Eidi money at your annual Eid gathering? Peggy Porschen, one of London’s most ‘grammable spots, have made a special Moon and Stars themed collection especially for Eid and features this amazing cake plus cupcakes too. Order yours from here in time for your family get together!

Dominique Ansel was a hot new arrival (trust me, I queued two hours for it) to London from America last October, and they’re still going strong with their innovative yet tasty creations. Their gift hampers are ideal for spoiling that favourite Aunty of yours but be quick to order as last day is 27th June. I would go for their kouign ammans if you fancy something buttery, sugary, and flaky. Click here for their website.
