Anyone lost for inspiration as to what to do this December? Well, I’ll be attending Sole DXB; a lifestyle, footwear and fashion event that occurs every year in Dubai. Now I know I probably don’t fit into any of those three categories but hey, I can appreciate a good pair of sneakers (I have a pretty solid collection myself!). Plus good weather, good vibes, and good food? It’s the perfect combination!
Although the main focus of the event is streetwear, they have a pretty solid food scene out there – chicken and waffles, charcoal ice cream, brisket tacos – yup, it’s gooooood. And this year, I’ve been invited out there to cover everything and anything delicious! Here are just a few foodie highlights from the previous years and perhaps a taster of what you can expect at Sole Dxb 17:
You can’t go wrong with a classic Shake Shack burger; a sexy cheesy, meaty affair all sandwiched between a pillowy potato roll. Don’t forget the crinkle cut fries (bonus points for getting them extra cheesy!).
Clinton St. Baking Company
Clinton St Baking Company is a classic American establishment that has so far appeared in every Sole DXB and I can see why. The chicken and waffle is an absolute hit; a sweet, vanilla waffle topped with a crispy buttermilk fried chicken and served with a honey-tabasco, maple and butter syrup just begging to be drizzled all over.
To shake things up, we also opted for the BBQ short rib slider served with a cabbage slaw on a toasted roll. The beef was a little dry and the bun was quite stodgy, however, the flavour was spot on.
As a devout pizza lover, the calories always come back to haunt my thighs. Thankfully, Pinzai make a healthier, lower calorie pizza with delicious options like the “Truffle Goodness” and “Totally Twisted”, topped with wagyu sausage. The crust of the classic margherita was deliciously bubbly and thick, with a generous amount of cheese melted on top.
Vida food truck, as part of Vida hotel Downtown, know how to do a meaaaan brisket dish. They’ve been back at Sole twice already with beef rib sandwiches, brisket nachos, fish tacos and lots of great other offerings.
Look how cute these mini fried chicken and waffles are from 1Life. They had been finished off with a generous sprinkle of crumbled feta cheese and a slick of spicy mayonnaise. I also tried out their beef hot dog, but found the bun to be quite dry and heavy, and overall quite forgettable.
Scoop by No 57.
Remember that super cool, black activated charcoal ice-cream on my Instagram? Well, let me introduce you to No 57, a dinner club that is known to have “the most sought-after dinner invitation in the UAE” and boutique cafe based in Abu Dhabi (stay tuned for that review!). They brought their chic concept to Sole DXB with a pop-up ice cream stall, Scoop by No.57, serving out macaron ice cream sandwiches, bubble waffles, and ube ice cream. Of course, I opted for all three dessert options.
Other notable food joints worth mentioning are Taqado (delicious Mexican street kitchen), Uncle Jheffs (casual Thai), and Miss Lillys (Caribbean food at its finest!). I can’t say too much about the food vendors yet for this year’s Sole DXB but I’m already salivating at the thought of it all.
Food and fashion asides, they also have an annual basketball tournament running across both days, as well as a concert for all you hip hop lovers!

See you guys there!
